Hefei University of Technology was founded in 1945and set up Mathematics from the beginning. The School of Mathematics currently has 21 professors, 56 associate professors, 1 Distinguished Teacher of National Ten-thousand Talent Program, 1 awarded National Award for Distinguished Teacher, 7 awarded Anhui Provincial Award for Distinguished Teachers, 1 member of teaching advisory committee for college mathematics under the Ministry of Education and 3 winners of Anhui Youth Mathematics Award.

The School of Mathematics began to enrol undergraduates since 1977, and currently has 3 undergraduate majors: information and computing science, mathematics and applied mathematics, and statistics.Among them, information and computing science is one of the first batch national majors and mathematics and applied mathematics is the first batch of first class major and comprehensive reform pilot majors of Anhui province.Three undergraduate majors enrol about 180 students in total each year.

The School of Mathematics is one of the earliest institutions to recruit graduate students in mathematics disciplines in domestic universities. It obtained the second discipline in computational mathematics for master program in 1981, the second discipline in applied mathematics for master program in 2000, and first discipline in mathematics for master in 2011. There are more than 50 master’s advisors and 50-60 postgraduates enrolled every year, and continuously cultivating up to over a thousand master degree graduates. In 2012, the school independently added the second discipline in information and computing for doctoral program, and received first discipline in mathematics for doctoral program in 2017. There are 10 doctoral advisors, and continuously cultivating up to over 40 doctoral degree graduates. The school obtained two second discipline in applied statistics and network and information security for master programs.

The main research directions of the School of Mathematics are: basic algebra and algebraic number theory, algebraic coding and cryptography, computational geometry, numerical approximation, differential equations and dynamic systems, operations research and optimization, multivariate statistical analysis, etc. Two directions includingalgebraic coding and numerical approximation are acting as the leading rolls of the world. In recent years, the School of Mathematics has conducted 1 State Key Program of National Natural Science of China,1 State Key Program of National Social Science of China, 1 National Science and Technology Major Project, 1 Military Industry 863 Program, and more than 80 projects came from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. A series of important research results have been obtained.Since 2018, as the first institute, the School of Mathematics has won the first prize of Anhui Province National Science Award (this is the second first prize of Anhui Province), the second prize of Anhui Province Technology Progress Award and second prize for each Anhui Province National Science Award and Anhui Province Technology Progress Award as the second institute.

The undergraduate teaching of the School of Mathematics has great influences across the country. The school of Mathematics holds a series of National teaching research projects and Anhui Province major teaching research projects, which leads to outstanding teaching research results. Edited“Advanced Mathematics”has won the second prize of first national textbook, second prize of national teaching achievement, 7 prizes including special prize and first prize of Anhui province teaching achievement, 1 Anhui Province major teaching achievement award, 1 nationtal quality course, 1 national resource sharing course, 1 national bilingual demonstration course, 1 national first class course, 1 national teaching team and has published as one of the national “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. The digital textbook “Advanced Mathematics” published by Higher Education Press in 2014 was the first new form of mathematical textbook published in China, which was treated as a model for new-form teaching materials by Higher Education Press and promoted throughout the country, leading the development of new-form teaching materials. In particularly, “College Mathematics” hosted by the School of Mathematics is the unique journal under the name of National Mathematics Teaching Committee and College Mathematics Teaching Committee, which plays a leading role in the country’s college mathematics teaching reform and the cultivation of college students’ innovative ability.
