At 7 PM on December 7, 2023, the School of Mathematics successfully held an academic lecture in the Big Data Center on the first floor of Block B, Science and Education Building, Feishui Lake Campus. The theme of the lecture was "Intelligence and Mathematics: Mathematical Principles in Computer Vision". The guest speaker was Ms. Su Min from the School of Mathematics, and more than 60 graduate students from the School of Mathematics and the School of Computer participated in the activity.
Teacher Su Min shared her research experience and results with everyone. First, she cited a common ecological phenomenon in which natural organisms are exposed to harmful microbial parasitism, which often leads to disease in the host, leading to the topic of today's presentation: How does the spread of disease cause changes in network structure and community characteristics? Then, Ms. Su used humorous language and vivid examples to explain the concepts in biomathematics such as nesting, modules, Shannon diversity and dilution effect, and introduced recent research results and current cutting-edge issues in theoretical ecology. Finally, Ms. Su Min encouraged the students to make achievements in interdisciplinary disciplines. She pointed out that in today's ever-changing world, interdisciplinary integration is the trend of future scientific development, but opportunities and challenges coexist. Students should be able to calm down, devote themselves to research, seriously study, and climb academic peaks.
The successful holding of this academic lecture expanded the students' cutting-edge knowledge in related disciplines, helped to stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in learning and research, and at the same time had a certain enlightening effect on the choice of scientific research direction of students.
