On the evening of May 28th, the employment ceremony – the first counselling report of the “Advanced Mathematics” section of the “Spring Breeze Aid to Navigation Project” of our school was held in the fifth conference room, Building A, Science and Education Building on Emerald Lake campus. The party committee student affairs department of university, persons in charge of the School of Mathematics, appointing teachers and students attended the employment ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Ting Wei, deputy secretary of the party committee and secretary of the disciplinary committee of the School of Mathematics.
At the ceremony, Hongtao Li, the deputy director of the student affairs department of the party committee, announced the “Implementation Plan for the Peer Lecturer Group of the “Spring Breeze Aid to Navigation Project” of Hefei University of Technology” and arranged the work related to peer guidance. Jian Cui, the deputy director of the student affairs department of the party committee and Renqing Fan, the secretary of the party committee of the School of Mathematics, announced the “Decision of the employment of peer lecturers of the “Spring Breeze Aid to Navigation Project” of Hefei University of Technology” and the “Decision of the employment of instructors of the “Spring Breeze Aid to Navigation Project” of Hefei University of Technology” respectively. Leaders who participated in this event issued appointment letters to the 25 peer lecturers and 5 instructors.
Xiaoyao Zhong, director of the student affairs department of the party committee, expressed his gratitude to the appointing teachers and congrats to the appointing peer lecturers. He hopes that the peer lecturers will be able to set high standards and strict requirements on themselves during the peer tutoring process; be thoughtful, prepared and summarized; be able to help others and self-help; help the mentored consolidate knowledge and update learning methods while realizing knowledge retracing, gaining a sense of responsibility and value; be able to strive to be the inheritor of the construction of a good style of study; respect teachers and education, think about the source of drinking water, make good use of resources, have the courage to practice, be self-improving and determined to forge ahead; create a good style of study, be an outstanding student, and jointly create a good learning atmosphere, starting from the details.
After the ceremony, Professor Shuo Tang, director of the academic committee of the School of the Mathematics, gave the first lecture on “How to Give a Good Advanced Mathematics Lecture” for peer lecturers. Teacher Tang introduced how to lecture “Advanced Mathematics” as a peer lecturer from the aspects of class preparation, expression and management. The report was vivid in language, detailed in content and specific in cases, which benefits the audiences a lot. At the same time, the appointed instructor carried out the first teaching and research discussion activity in the third conference room, and further discussed and optimized the tutoring outline and arrangements.
It is reported that the establishment of the “Spring Breeze Aid to Navigation Project” peer lecturer group is an important action for the school to cultivate a good style of study and do a good job of precise assistance. It is a launch of special study style construction activity digging into the the brand connotation and broadening the audience based on the integrating resources of previous work by the student work department of the party committee and the School of Mathematics, which aims at helping students who have difficulties in the study of “Advanced Mathematics” while promoting students to achieve self-growth in “helping others” and “self-help”. This peer tutoring will be divided into 5 classes (1 for minority students), of which 3 will be set up on the Emerald Lake campus and 2 will be set up on the Tunxi Road campus, which will focus on both online and offline. Through three forms, namely classroom teaching, “one-to-one” counselling and after-class Q&A, these activities are carried out at a frequency of not less than 4 class hours per week.
